The Institute of Carpenters
The Institute of Carpenters was founded in 1890 by 11 craftsmen who had achieved first classes passes in new exams set by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters.
The Institute, whilst remaining committed to its original aims of ensuring each generation of carpenters and joiners upholds the highest traditions of our craft, now embraces many other wood crafts and offers professional status to those holding recognised qualifications. Examples of other wood crafts include furniture and cabinet making, boat building (wood working skills), structural post & beam carpenters (heavy structural timber framers), wheelwrights, wood carvers and wood turners.
The Institute aims to:
-
Promote and enhance the role and status of skilled craftsmen and women everywhere
-
Encourage the highest standards of craftsmanship for all working with wood
-
Maintain the best traditions of our historic crafts
The Institute provides an invaluable range of support and services including:
-
Technical and practical information and advice
-
Respected qualifications from Foundation through to Fellowship level
-
