NICEIC
What is NICEIC?
The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting, or NICEIC for short, is the electrical contracting industry's independent voluntary body for electrical installation matters throughout the UK.
It offers many services, some of the key ones being:
-
Industry-leading certification services
-
Building Regulations Schemes
-
Products and support to electrical contractors
Over 24,000 government-registered electricians are registered with NICEIC across the UK and Northern Ireland.
What are the advantages of using an NICEIC approved contractor?
1. Added confidence in their work:
By using an electrician that is approved by NICEIC you have added comfort that you are employing a competent contractor and a higher degree of certainty that the work they do will be of a satisfactory standard.
In order to be an NICEIC approved contractor they have to:
-
comply with the various technical and safety standards
-
comply with codes of practice and NICEIC Scheme rules
-
be assessed regularly which entails assessing a representative sample of the contractors' work, their premises, documentation, equipment, and the competence of their key supervisory staff.
Once electricians become registered with NICEIC, they are re-assessed on a regular basis to ensure continued compliance.
2. Potential to Save Time and Money:
Electricians registered to NICEIC Building Regulations Schemes are authorised to self-certify their work without hindrance from Local Authority Building Control. This saves you both time and money when undertaking work that requires notification under the Building Regulations.
3. Insurance Backed Warranty
The NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty covers work undertaken by contractors registered to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme that is notifiable to Building Control. The purpose of the Warranty is to protect consumers should any work be found not to comply with the Building Regulations under circumstances where the contractor is no longer in business to undertake the necessary remedial work.
4. Reduces potential risk to you and your family
It is easy to take electricity for granted but each year in the UK around 12,500 house fires, 750 serious injuries and 10 deaths are caused by unsafe electrics in the home. If you attempt DIY electrics or use an unregistered electrician to carry out work in your home you could be putting your family's lives at risk.
